We examined the labels of four preparations. We will not disclose the names of two generally available products because the goal is to demonstrate the method of comparison. Alongside them are Hammer Endurolytes and Hammer Endurolytes Extreme, designed for higher sodium needs.
The first important question: what is a serving size?
The milligram value on the label can only be interpreted together with the serving size. One manufacturer provides values for two capsules, another for eight tablets, and a third for even a single capsule.

- one recommended serving;

Based on the numbers, it is immediately clear that these preparations are formulated with different emphases. Product "B" provides a large amount of sodium per tablet. The most striking feature of Product "A" is its exceptionally high magnesium content. The two Hammer formulas offer a broader mineral profile and a more gradually adjustable dosage.
A higher number does not automatically mean a better composition. The next question should always be what compound the mineral is derived from and whether its quantity aligns with the product's intended use.
The form of the mineral matters
The nutrition facts table often only states "magnesium: 350 mg." The ingredient list reveals whether this amount is provided by magnesium oxide, citrate, malate, bisglycinate, or another magnesium compound.
This is a significant difference. The solubility, bioavailability, and gastrointestinal tolerability of individual forms can vary.
Magnesium oxide contains a lot of elemental magnesium, so a high number can be listed on the label with a relatively small amount of raw material. However, its solubility and bioavailability may be less favorable than those of several organic magnesium forms. The term "chelated" indicates that the mineral is bound to an organic carrier, typically an amino acid. The exact properties are determined by the type of chelate, so a detailed compound name would provide more information. Nevertheless, the use of a chelated form generally indicates a more conscious choice of raw material, especially in a preparation used during sports, where gastrointestinal tolerability is of paramount importance.
Product "A": high magnesium content from simple forms
The main mineral sources of Product "A" are sodium chloride, magnesium oxide, and potassium chloride. The two-capsule serving, according to the label, provides the following:

At first glance, 350 mg of magnesium might give the impression of a particularly strong composition. This amount is entirely derived from magnesium oxide. One capsule of the product thus provides 175 mg of magnesium, which is seven times the magnesium content per capsule of Hammer Endurolytes.
During exercise, such a high single dose can pose a risk for individuals with a more sensitive digestive system. During endurance exertion, a significant portion of blood flow is directed towards the working muscles and skin, so the digestive system often tolerates high doses less well.
The ingredient list shows a longer technological background. The capsule shell is made of gelatin and also contains shellac, iron oxides, ammonium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide. The formula also includes maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, and calcium phosphate. A calcium source is present among the ingredients, but the amount of calcium is not listed as an active ingredient on the label.
This is a good example of why it is necessary to look beyond the high milligram value. The quantity, the form of the compound, the ratio of electrolytes, and the other ingredients together reveal the true character of the product.

The exact quantities of three minerals are listed on the label. Sodium chloride also provides chloride, but its value is not indicated separately. Calcium and manganese are not listed as active ingredients.
Cellulose, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, magnesium salts of fatty acids, and calcium phosphate are also used in the production of the tablet. These are technological ingredients that aid the tablet's structure, manufacturability, and stability.
Based on the label, a simple, sodium-centric formula emerges. The full electrolyte profile and the forms of minerals used are less complex.
Hammer Endurolytes: a fuller mineral profile, flexible dosing

The list of other ingredients is short. It contains rice hull fiber, a vegetable capsule, hypromellose, and purified water. The formula is made without gelatin, artificial colors, and complex capsule coatings.
The more modest sodium content reflects a deliberate formulation. Hammer Endurolytes is designed for average or moderate electrolyte needs, while its dosage can be increased based on individual requirements.

The list of other ingredients is also short here: vegetable cellulose capsule and rice concentrate. The preparation is vegan-friendly, contains no artificial colors, and no complex coating.
Hammer Endurolytes and Hammer Endurolytes Extreme can be used as a complementary system. Individual electrolyte needs can vary widely, so athletes can choose between the two concentrations based on weather, sweat rate, exertion, and previous experience.
What does the order of ingredients reveal?

For encapsulated electrolyte products, the ingredient list can identify which mineral salts form the basis of the formula. This is even more evident for drink powders, gels, and energy bars. What do the other ingredients mean?
The capsule material, bulking agents, anti-caking agents, and coatings play a technological role. When evaluating the label, it is worth checking how long this list is and how easily the role of each substance can be understood.
A short ingredient list alone does not prove the complete quality of the finished product. It can be a positive sign if the formula is made with few excipients, without artificial colors, and in a simple vegetable capsule.
Transparency is particularly valuable for the consumer. It is easier to make a conscious decision if the active ingredients, mineral sources, and technological ingredients are clearly distinguished on the label.
What makes an electrolyte preparation premium?
Premium quality emerges from a combination of several details. The exact form of the minerals, dosing that is manageable during exercise, a matching electrolyte profile, and gastrointestinal tolerability are important. A short, justifiable list of excipients further enhances the value of the formula.
Based on the compared labels, Hammer Endurolytes and Hammer Endurolytes Extreme demonstrate the most thoughtful systemic approach. Carefully reading the back of the package takes a few minutes. This amount of time is often enough to recognize the difference between a catchy promise and a truly well-thought-out sports nutrition formula.
