WHEY PROTEIN BAR FAQS

When should I eat a Whey Protein Bar?

As a pre-workout meal, as occasional solid food alongside your other Hammer fuels during longer workouts and races, after training – if you fancy solid food or Recoverite isn't practical right then – or any time as a snack.

What is the whitish or greyish layer on the chocolate coating?

That's “chocolate bloom”: when the bars travel in warm weather or sit in a hot delivery vehicle or warehouse, the fat in the chocolate separates and then solidifies again on the surface. It can happen with the Whey Protein Bar, the Chocolate Peanut Vegan Protein Bar and the chocolate Hammer Bar flavours. It's completely harmless and the bar is fine to eat. There are emulsifiers that would prevent this, but since we don't want to put unnecessary additives in our bars, we don't use them.

The bars seem smaller. Has their size changed?

Their weight hasn't: the bars are produced by weight, not by volume, and their weight is fixed by contract. The manufacturer replaced its forming machine, so their shape may have changed slightly. Bar weights: Whey Protein Bar 50 g, Vegan Protein Bar 56 g (Almond Cacao) and 57 g (Chocolate Peanut), Hammer Bar 50 g.

Is it vegan? Is it gluten-free?

It's not vegan: it contains whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate. It is gluten-free and grain-free. It contains peanuts and milk and is made in a facility that also processes tree nuts, wheat, soy and sesame. Looking for a plant-based option? Check out the Vegan Protein Bar.

HOW TO USE
  • Before training: as a light pre-workout meal.
  • During training and racing: as occasional solid food during longer efforts, alongside your other Hammer fuels.
  • After training: if you fancy solid food, or when Recoverite isn't practical – it provides both carbohydrate and protein.
  • Any time: as a snack.

  • Dark chocolate (cassava fibre, cocoa mass, cocoa butter) – the coating.
  • Isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMO) syrup and tapioca syrup – sources of carbohydrate that also act as binders.
  • Soluble tapioca fibre – dietary fibre.

About 70% of the ingredients come from certified organic farming (USDA Organic); these are marked with an asterisk in the ingredient list.
